Skitch is described as a picture annotation app. It has several versions designed for multiple mobile devices and platforms including iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android, Mac OSX, Windows 8, and Windows Desktop. It is an app/tool that allows the user to edit/annotate any image by using app features to add text, arrows, shapes, and drawing. Images can range from photos to screenshots and maps to webpages. In addition to manipulating images, users can create diagrams that can be used to present simple website designs or process flow charts. Once a product is complete, users can save their work directly to their Evernote account to share when appropriate. Other sharing alternatives include Twitter, email, and AirPlay. In addition, users can simply save their products to the camera roll or desktop for future use.
Aside from having fun with this app, Skitch offers users the ability to achieve various goals. Finished products can enhance any presentation, elevate the level of understanding of a concept, and increase effective communication among team members. These goals are achieved by combining images, text, and additional graphics.
operates easily within and across platforms and devices
includes built-in browser that hides address bar to allowing the user to capture just the image
provides multiple options for saving and sharing products
syncs with Evernote accounts
offers a variety of annotation tools
enhances communication of ideas/understanding
promotes collaboration among group members
allows for split screen workspace when working in Mac OSX or Windows 8
Constraints of Tool or App
Limited annotation tools and options on mobile devices compared to platforms like Windows 8
Strongly encourages users to create an Evernote account; unable to save images without Evernote account on iPad
Can only create/annotate one image at a time; must use an additional app to place multiple images together for a presentation ie Book Creator
Unable to capture a Google image when selected. The app then layers all of the images on top of each other. Must capture the whole screen and crop within the app.
